Studio Neptune believes that creative thinking is a fundamental objective of human development and strives to make this a real and rewarding experience through the power of making art. On site and online, we are a rich resource for creative project ideas. If you are an artist or educator we hope you will try the projects yourself, offer them to classes you may be teaching, and send us comments and results. As we have seen here at our own studio, children grow in all kinds of directions when they make a meaningful work of art.
Projects initiate from our studio space in downtown Bethesda, Maryland where we conduct classes for children ages 5-14. Classes are led by Studio Neptune founder, Elyse Harrison. A lifelong passion for the visual arts has inspired Elyse Harrison to produce her narrative, often surrealistic paintings, initiate Studio Neptune’s highly successful fine art education program in 1990 and launch one of Bethesda’s leading contemporary art galleries, Gallery Neptune. Neptune relocated in the fall of 2008 to Bethesda, Maryland’s brand new LEED certified Peripoint building, located in the hub of downtown Bethesda and is currently operating full time as a teaching studio. Elyse Harrison has served on the board of the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County and is a member of Bethesda’s Arts and Entertainment advisory board and the advisory board for Arts on the Block. She has created over fifteen murals for public schools through the Maryland State Arts Council’s Artists in Education Program, has been invited to jury numerous art exhibits and award competitions in the Washington, DC area. She has been the recipient of numerous grants including a 2012 award for development of her first art inspired book for children.
