1. 01
Make a two wall room using foam core. Cut a square for the floor. Ours measured 9" x 9". Then cut a rectangular piece for the two walls. Ours measured 11" x 18". Score this piece in the center of the 18" side and bend it at the score line. Do not assemble the room yet.
  2. 02
Have cookies available to study for a drawing. Fill up a 9" x 9" sheet of paper with small drawings of the same cookie and color these in with markers or colored pencils.
  3. 03
Make copies of this sheet using a color printer/copier. Print as many copies as you will need to proceed with the following steps.
  4. 04
Cut the color copies to evenly line the floor and walls and glue them to the foam core. Make sure you leave the score line exposed. Put the room together using straight pins inserted from the backside of the walls.
  5. 05
Have someone photograph you, the artist of this project, or anyone you like standing up eating one of the cookies. Print the photograph onto card stock. Cut out the photograph and trace the shapes of your clothing. Copy the tracing onto more of your cookie pattern copies using graphite paper. Glue the new outfit to your photograph.
  6. 06
We sat our figure in a chair which was also covered in the cookie pattern. See our project "Gabe Chairs" for instructions on how to make an easy small chair.
commentary
Cookie Rooms can be used to emphasize a singular object or idea through repetition. The project can also become an example of camouflage through the visual merging of the environment with the subject.
